What is it worth to you that the Ithaka Institute exists?
Think about a donation
The Ithaka Institute is a government-approved, non-profit research foundation. We are funded through government research contracts, development assistance projects, consulting mandates, and the development of certification standards and products. However, through our work in the tropics, we are also very close to the lives of ordinary farmers struggling to maintain their food sovereignty. By linking food security and climate farming, we have created new sources of income for tropical farmers. Through our Artisan C-sink certificate, smallholder farmers anywhere in the world can create carbon sinks and get paid for them at the world market price. By planting forest gardens with biochar-based fertilizers, farmers diversify both their food base and their income.
Climate change has become part of everyday life for farmers in the global south. Here, too, creating C-sinks in starving fields is just a drop in the climate change bucket, but it charts the way forward if more people than today understood what is at stake and how little it takes to take effective action against it. With Ithaka Nepal and Ithaka Ghana, as well as projects in Indonesia, Cuba, and Bangladesh, we are making a scientifically sound yet practical commitment to the hope of a balanced, fair life in a healthy environment.
The Ithaka Institute, developer of many new climate-positive biochar uses, the Kon-Tiki system for the democratization of biochar production, publisher of the Biochar Journal, and coordinator of the Nepali Climate Farming Fund is a not-for-profit foundation and committed to an open source philosophy. With a donation, you help us to build the knowledge and technology for a more carbon-intelligent world. The amount you choose for your donation is tax deductible in Europe.
